Menstruation Matters!! My girls in Uganda do not have access to hygienic, sanitary products, and they often must rely on unclean and uncomfortable materials (such as old clothing, pieces of foam mattress, banana leaves, etc.) to manage each month. With the shame of embarrassing leaks and the discomfort of infections they often do not report to school. If they miss 4-5 days of school every month, they are deprived of the opportunity to learn and advance. In some instances, girls drop out of school entirely, which increases their vulnerability for pregnancy and health complications, thereby limiting their future careers and economic opportunities.
Our team will be traveling to Uganda in a few weeks and will be having several sessions with our girls to educate them about their female anatomy and about viable options for healthy menstrual management.
We are working with AfriPads, a company headquartered in Uganda, to purchase Menstrual Kits. Each Kit contains 4 reuseable sanitary pads and can be used for 12 months with proper care. Each Kit costs just under $6, and we will purchase them when we arrive in-country.
Our Team is working to raise $5,000 so that we can purchase enough Menstrual Kits to equip our students and other vulnerable and at-risk girls who are served by our Camp Director. Won’t you please consider helping us so that we can make a huge difference in the lives of these young Ugandan girls?!
