Please Support Musab and his family

Musab is a student at the Carlson School of Management. As the oldest child in his family, he has the responsibility to care for his younger siblings and parents. Musab is in his last semester at the Carlson School (majoring in Accounting).  Him and his family only have access to one device for all to share during virtual learning.

On Monday, March 1,  Musab was a victim of racial profiling In Hanson Hall at the University of Minnesota. He went to Hanson Hall to rent a laptop so he could take an  Accounting midterm he had that evening, which is a service all Carlson School of Management students have access to.  Once he (accompanied by his brother) arrived at the computer lab he was met with a staff member that seemed "very uncomfortable" with them being there. Musab shared that he is a U of M student and he was there to rent a laptop. The staff member continued to seem apprehensive so Musab offered to present his U-Card and urged him to look him up to confirm his enrollment (not to mention that in order to enter the building and print from the computer lab you need to swipe you U-card, which he has already done prior to asking to rent the laptop).  Musab provided his U-Card thinking that this would resolve the issue. After the staff member confirmed he was a student he still refused to rent him the laptop.  The staff refused and said he "didn't trust him to be a Carlson student", the staff member then proceeded to flick the middle finger at Musab and his brother and stepped outside the lab yelling for "security" over and over.

Musab and his brother decide to step outside the lab for their safety.  This is when the staff member closed the door on them and refused to allow them back inside the lab, where Musab had left the notes he had just printed for his exam that evening.

At that point Musab and his brother decided to step outside of Hanson Hall and went to their car very frustrated by what just happened. This is when they were approached by University of Minnesota Police. The police officer questioned them about why they were on campus. As history has shown, having the cops call on two Black males is very dangerous and could end in death. As you can imagine Musab and his brother are very anxious and concerned for their well-being as most would be with an interaction with a cop.  He has to plead with the cop that he was a student but was labeled as aggressive and hostile due to his anxiety. The cops should not have been called on Musab and his brother because he was trying to get access to a resource he very much has a right to and provided all the proof necessary.

This was a very traumatic experience for both Musab and his brother, Musab then proceeded to take his accounting exam that evening.  Musab has shared his story, along with videos and photos on his twitter account  .

We are hoping to raise money for Musab and his family as he is financially  responsible for his family. We are hoping that this will take the financial burden away from him and he is able to focus on his mental well-being and academics as well as his families. We are raising funds for basic needs, groceries, gas, etc. Please consider donating anything you can.
