Support Clean Water for Displaced Families in Gaza
Thousands of people — including children, the elderly, and the sick — are currently displaced in the area of Al-Mawasi, Khan Younis (Gaza Strip). They live in makeshift tents without access to clean water, electricity, or basic sanitation.
This fundraiser aims to drill and equip a water well for daily hygienic use and provide access to safe, clean water for thousands of displaced families.
Who I Am
My name is Dr. Hatem Al-Farra, a medical doctor based in the Netherlands. I work in the Dutch healthcare system and remain in close contact with my family and community in Gaza.
I am organizing this fundraiser on behalf of my extended family and neighbors, who are currently living in dire conditions in displacement camps in Al-Mawasi, Khan Younis. The local contact and coordinator on the ground is my cousin, Amer Al-Farra, who has experience working with humanitarian NGOs and managing water and logistics projects before and during the current crisis.
Who Will Benefit?
All funds will go directly toward helping displaced families, with no money lost to intermediaries or high transfer fees. Donations will be used for:
• Drilling and equipping a water well
• Installing a solar-powered water pump and filtration system
• Building a basic internal distribution network for tents in the camp
• If drilling is not possible, funds will help provide fresh water tanks via truck delivery
• Remaining funds may support food, medicine, or hygiene items, depending on the evolving situation and donor instructions
How Will the Money Be Transferred?
The funds will be sent directly from my Dutch bank account to Amer Al-Farra’s personal bank account in Gaza — securely and transparently.
This avoids predatory middlemen who often take 30–50% in fees or commissions.
Important:
This project is strictly humanitarian and non-political.
No funds will be used for any armed, military, or political activity of any kind.
This effort is about dignity, health, and basic survival.
Transparency and Follow-Up
We are committed to full transparency and accountability. Donors will receive:
• Regular updates
• Financial breakdowns of spending
• Photos/videos of the project
• Breakdown of how funds are spent
• Confirmation of every key step
Feasibility and Current Conditions:
Some donors asked important questions: Is this even possible under current conditions? Is it realistic to drill a well in a war zone like Gaza?
The answer is yes — and here’s why:
- The soil in Al-Mawasi is sandy and soft, making it relatively easy to drill with simple equipment, without the need for large machinery.
- This region has shallow groundwater, typically accessible at a depth of 10 to 15 meters.
- Water pumps, solar panels, piping, and essential tools are still available inside Gaza, though prices have skyrocketed.
- Other volunteer groups have already successfully installed similar wells in nearby areas — but unfortunately, those wells are too far from the camp we're targeting. That’s why we need a new one in this specific area.
Also, although fuel is severely limited, some water tank trucks are still operating, often using recycled cooking oil as a substitute — a remarkable example of local resilience. However, deliveries are limited and unreliable, making a dedicated well the best long-term solution.
