Quick Summary of Fundraiser (read below for full explanation):
Purpose: Support Orinda restaurants during Shelter-in-Place while showing appreciation for our local hospital healthcare workers.
How it works: Funds raised go directly to participating restaurants. Restaurants prepare meals and deliver to John Muir hospital. Quantity of meals and which day part (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner) are requested by the hospital to fill in what they need and when.
Hospital Participants: John Muir Hospital, we are working on a second partnership with Kaiser Walnut Creek
Restaurant Participants (to date): Europa, Fourth Bore, Genuine Goodness, Maya, My Sustainable Table, Petra, Reem's Steaks, Republic of Cakes, Szechwan, Saffron, Shelbys, Siam Orchid, Taverna Pellegrini and Cafe Teatro
Who we are: An Orinda Book Club and additional friends with a desire to help our local community, plus generous donors from across Orinda!
How to Join in: Restaurants can reach out via this page to be added to the group. Donors can donate here and please hit the "share" button after and share via social media, texts or emails to your Orinda friends.

From a brief comment made during a book club Zoom meeting this week (we should really figure out a way to help ...), this fundraiser has been created to help our local community.
From our creative spark, Tracy: "During this coronavirus crisis, my friends and I have been trying to figure out a way we all can help our community. I realized we could help our local restaurants (so they and their employees are still here when this is over) while showing our immense appreciation for ALL healthcare workers at the same time.
I contacted the John Muir Healthcare Foundation to coordinate meals from our local community restaurants to be delivered to the hospital. They were thrilled with the outreach and we have worked out the logistics as follows:
I am going to start with any Orinda restaurant interested or capable of complying with health department and delivery guidelines. If the campaign is successful I will reach out to Lafayette and Moraga eateries to include them. The meals can be breakfast, lunch and dinner. This should allow this effort to help all levels of restaurants from cafes to fine dining.
John Muir can take up to two hundred meals for each designated mealtime (up to 600 meals a day). The average cost per meal will be: Dinners $20, Lunch $15, Breakfast $10.
The money raised through this site will go directly to the restaurant(s) providing the meal(s), which will then go straight to John Muir Hospital.
It's a simple process. As we raise funds we will rotate the orders between participating restaurants. The restaurants cook, package up individual meals and then we coordinate with John Muir for delivery. A hospital representative will meet the delivery driver outside the hospital to collect the meals.

We have scheduled our first deliveries for this week! John Muir Hospital requested and will receive the following deliveries:
Wednesday, 4/8: 50 Lunches from Maya, 50 dinners from The Fourth Bore
Friday, 4/10: 50 dinners from Saffron, 50 dinners from Europa
We'll post pix from the restaurants and our delivery team as we get them.
Our restaurant partners have been amazing. They are so happy to help and are touched by our Orinda community's support.
