Yearbook Scanner Fund

Donation protected
Friends, we are very glad that so many of you are enjoying the new St Bernard Parish Yearbooks Facebook group.  It is our goal to continue growing the group with content and members as we go along. We are currently transferring all of the content from our personal Facebook pages.  Even as we complete that process we will still be missing much content that has been lost in the storm. Currently approximately 50 yearbooks have been scanned.  Some I have scanned myself, some have been scanned by Angel, a few have been scanned by Doug Degan and a few have been scanned by others. The majority though have been scanned by the CHS Yearbook club after the school purchased a professional book scanner, which was an $11,000.00 expense by the school.  All of the books that were scanned were then uploaded the the alumni section of the school's website and were available to be downloaded for free. The problem is that the school has not scanned any additional yearbooks for at least 2 years.  Part of the reason was that the scanner had to be placed in storage during some on going construction at the school.  After completion of the construction, it appears that the school has yet to continue with the yearbook scanning project.  Also the alumni section of the school's website has been revamped and no longer has the ability for the books to be viewed or downloaded.  Angel and I have tried on numerous occasions to contact the school to find out if and when the yearbook scanning project would continue. After no response we can only assume that it has been abandoned by them.
This situation has placed us in the position of deciding to take the project on ourselves so that we can fill in as many missing yearbooks as possible, which will include the remaining high school books, junior high and middle school, and even elementary school books that are available to scan.  Since that book scanner was purchased 5 or 6 years ago, the technology has improved a great deal and the better news is that the price has gone way down. We have recently done some research and found a solution for completing this project efficiently and with a quality that is actually better than the $11,000.00 solution of 6 years ago.
The scanner we are looking at is called ScanSnap SV600, and it is priced at $995. We honestly feel that this piece of equipment would do an excellent job for our needs. Along with the scanner that would be needed is two storage drives, so that the content that we will be adding to the content that we already have can be stored at two separate locations. One with me and one with Angel. I priced the storage with future growth in mind to be near an additional $600. It is our idea to set up a GoFundMe page to raise the funds to purchase this equipment. Neither Angel or myself is in the position to purchase $1600 worth of equipment, but we are in the position to move forward with this project and share in the work of the actual scanning and posting.  We both feel that raising $1600 should not take us very long to raise and we will be able to move forward fairly soon. Help us get those memories back.
