Facing Eviction
Donation protected
I am utterly embarrassed to have to do this but this is my last resort.
My name is Laney Reeves and my husband is David Reeves. We have one kid, Theo and another one on the way.
We recently received an eviction notice. I got terminated from my job in August due to being pregnant and missing work, but my husband remained for a few weeks but only while receiving $50 a day under the table. He quit that job because we couldn’t even pay our bills on it and we both took on another where together we brought home $20 an hour but all of the money we were making went straight back into bills that we were behind on due to the previous job. No fun stuff, no eating out, no extras, just electric, water, internet. Our car got totaled a month ago so my husband was no longer able to return to work. He’s currently waiting for a bicycle so he can use that to get to and from work. I am still working on days I can get rides to and from work. All of our bills are paid and up to date, our rent is the only thing that has fallen behind and at this point it is so far behind we are unable to catch up alone. My husband worked for our landlord and worked off some debt, but it’s not enough to cover the entire amount. The total amount due is $2,145, (rent for Sept, Oct, Nov - not including Dec that is coming up) there is a local agency willing to pledge $200 ONLY if we get the rest figured out. We have spoken to a few local agencies in our area and none of them are able to help with the full amount. If I’m able to get even half of the amount, our landlord has told us they will work with us and try and sort out a payment arrangement so we don’t lose our housing. We are on a wait list for a few low income housing apartments but the wait lists are 2+ years long even with an eviction notice and us having a child.
Unfortunately, too many people are in the same position we are right now. I understand it’s the holidays and everyone, not just us, are strapped for cash right now. If you can’t donate, all I ask is if you would please share. This could happen to anyone. We never thought it would happen to us. We have always always always paid our rent and our bills on time, our last landlord gave us the best reference to get in here because we were never late on our payments. Unfortunately, one paycheck is all it takes to lose everything. If anyone needs any further information or proof, I am more than willing to provide. If you want to pay to my landlord directly, I can give you that information. Thank you and Happy Holidays.
