Helping an Air force vet with housing
My name is Craig and I'm doing this to help an old friend out in a bad time. Any help would be appreciated. suddenly displaced by landlord selling building. 76 year old Air force vet has been living in this apartment for almost 20 plus. Was recently informed the building is being sold and he has to move. he is on a fixed income and cannot come up with first last and security deposit along with moving expenses. seems like he has about a month to find something so trying to help him the best I can. It would mean a great deal to me if anyone could help. its just him and his cat. thank you in advance.
Bobs story below
I have lived at 209 Jay Street for 21 years. My apartment is one of 3 in the building. The building was purchased in the 70's and the owner lived on the top floor. He purchased a home and moved a few years before I moved into the basement apt. I have cared for the building like it was My own. I shoveled the walks and lit the furnace several times a week. It was an old furnace and went out a number of times a week. I am now 76 and it was difficult for me to get on My knees to light it but I always got it lit and managed to keep the building heated. I knew that one day I would have to move and now that day has come. The owner would like Me out in March.
The owner has decided to put the building up for sale and thinks that it would sell faster if My apt was empty. I don't see the reasoning in this because I would think a building with all units rented would sell faster. My propblem is that I don't go out much. I can walk without assistance but lets face it I am 76 years old. I am A Veteran of the Air Force and I use the Veterans Healthcare for all my needs and medications. I live with only social security and have kept up my rent and other bills..I do not have the funds to move like first month, security and moving expenses.. I think an apartment would cost around 700 and moving close to 1000..I would need 2500 to accomplish a move. I have nobody to ask for funds like that. I have a Sister My age and She lives on Social Security also.
I do not want to give up My freedom and go into a supervised living arrangement. I have helped many people over the years and now I am in need. I am depressed over this and would appreciate any assistance anyone can offer.
