The Shirley Family
Donation protected
July 23rd Update: Thane and his family would like to thank everyone for their generous donations. He is sincerely touched and shocked with everyone’s kindness. We all know this is a small gesture as they both tackle a courageous battle. The Go Fund Me page will be open until July 24th, then the funds will be sent to Thane to use them as his family needs to. Because of your donations and sharing of the page, we more than doubled our goal. We all hope this helps a little bit Thane and Luane. Please keep Thane and Luane in your thoughts and prayers.
July 13th Update: Thane and Luane would like to thank everyone for their kindness and generosity. Because of the kindness of friends, colleagues, family, neighbours and strangers, we have doubled our goal. This money will go a long way for the Shirley family however they choose to use it. Thane shared that Luane is feeling well during the days and tired at night. She starts new medication in a couple of weeks to help slow down the spread of her cancer. As always, Thane is in good spirits and staying positive. They are humbled by your generosity. We will keep this campaign open a little bit longer as it appears that the link is still being shared. Thank you for sharing this info with others, and thank you for keeping the Shirley family in your thoughts and prayers.
Thank you to everyone for your generous donations. The Shirley family is overwhelmed with gratitude for everyone’s kindness. Thane and Luane want to thank all of you! We will keep the donations coming in until mid-July. Thank you for sharing the link. This is going to help the family so much!
Hi, my name is Miranda Low, representing the Sylvia Fedoruk School staff who had the pleasure of working with Thane Shirley. Thane has been a teacher in Saskatoon Public Schools for over 25 years. In August of 2022, Thane was diagnosed with prostate cancer. This is Thane's second bout of cancer, surviving leukemia 15 years ago. As Thane was battling prostate cancer, his wife, Luane was diagnosed with breast cancer in December 2022. Both Thane and Luane underwent surgery and have been hopeful for their treatment plan and recovery. Sadly, Luane received bad news on June 26th that her cancer has metastasized, spreading to her bones. The Shirley family is in shock but staying optimistic and taking things day by day. If you can support Thane and Luane, and their children Alyssa and Nathan, we know it will make a huge difference in their lives. They would never ask for anything but we know how much they would appreciate anything we can offer.
