Grand Traverse Home Makeover
Donation protected
For the past four summers, Mark Kosinski and I have been taking a group of young people to complete service projects in Michigan to assist the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians. Over the years we have developed lasting relationships with many members of the Tribe and have learned a great deal about the history, culture, and passion of these individuals.
This summer, as we were just a couple of days from leaving, we were made aware of a very urgent need in the community. Autumn, a 21-year old girl, and her brother Gage (14) lost their mother to colon cancer this April. Not only are these two young people dealing with the loss of their mother, but they were also left with a home in very poor repair and no resources to make improvements.
Although we were not able to stay longer to make home repairs at that time, Mark and I immediately decided that these young people could not wait another year before we helped them.
That is why we are planning to return to Traverse City, Michigan, July 24-26, to complete as many projects in the house as possible. This time we will be taking a team of adults and paying for our own lodging and meals. That means that any money you donate will go directly to helping the family.
Planned renovations include installing laminate flooring throughout the house; replacing the vanity, toilet, and sub flooring in the bathroom; painting a bedroom; repairing cabinetry in the kitchen; cleaning and completing any other project that we can accomplish in our short time there.
Because we just spent all of the funds that we raised for the student trip this summer, our Grand Traverse Service Project account is depleted at this time. Please help us ease the difficulties that Autumn and Gage are facing by donating to this worthy cause. You can be assured that every amount that you donate will directly benefit the family. I will even cover the 7.9% fee that GoFundMe charges for managing the account.
No amount is too small. We have proven that we are really good at doing great things with a little bit of help from others. Thanks for considering this cause.
