Hello everyone,

I’m reaching out with a heavy heart to share the challenges my mother, Monica, has been facing. After undergoing surgery a few weeks ago, we were hopeful for her recovery. Initially, everything seemed fine, but the next day, her gastroparesis returned, leaving her bedridden and struggling to regain her strength.

For those unfamiliar with gastroparesis, it’s a debilitating condition where the stomach muscles fail to move food through the digestive system as they should. This can cause extreme nausea and the inability to keep down food or water, leaving the person debilitated. Monica has battled this condition twice before, with each episode lasting 7-8 months. Sadly, there’s no cure for gastroparesis at this time.

Because of her gastroparesis, Monica couldn’t keep down the essential medications she needed after her surgery, including blood thinners. As a result, blood clots formed in her lungs, requiring an emergency surgery at Vassar Medical Center to save her life.

If you’ve met Monica, you know she’s a kind, warm, and compassionate woman. She has an incredible ability to light up a room and bring joy to others, even when she’s enduring her own hardships. She is the heart of our family, and her resilience inspires us every day.

Unfortunately, her ongoing medical battle has come with mounting hospital bills, and there’s only so much insurance can cover. To make matters more challenging, there’s no clear timeline for her recovery, meaning we’re uncertain when she’ll be able to return to work.
