Hey everyone! My name is Mick, I am 16 years old and I live in Durham Region.
In 2018, we launched an initiative called the “Penny Pack” which was dedicated to creating functional hygiene care packages for the homeless population across the GTA. After many years of learning more about my community and the unique needs of individuals across the region, our goal has been adapted and expanded to assist new populations as well! I am proud to say that with the incredible support of family, friends, and members within our community, we are now in our 6th year of the Penny Pack Initiative, and with a commitment to continue to learn and spark change in our local community.
To date, we have assembled and distributed over 2500 packs to various locations throughout the GTA, reaching those living on the streets and in shelters. We have supported the Seeds of Hope Foundation, Durham Outreach Program, Durham Mental Health Services, Children’s Aide and many more!
As we continue to learn about the unique needs within our community, we strive to expand the Penny Pack to provide for various demographics such as seniors in need, children living within shelters, women in need of feminine hygiene and more. This year, we created a system of grab-and-go bins of products that were distributed to Children’s Aide for the winter months.
I am overwhelmed by the growing support with the Penny Pack, and I am so very grateful to be part of such a caring community. I want to thank you for your support with this initiative, and to let you know that your kindness will help so many along the way.
Kindness IS Power,
