Penny Pack Initiative
Hello everyone! My name is McKenna, I am 13 years old and I live in Durham Region.
In 2018 we launched an initiative called the “Penny Pack”. After learning more about the homeless population within our community we set out to raise funds to provide hygiene care/comfort packs to be distributed to those in need. I am proud to say that with the incredible support of family, friends, and members within our community, we are now on our 3rd year of the Penny Pack Initiative, and with a commitment to continue for as long as the need exists within our community
To date we have assembled and distributed over 1000 packs to various locations throughout the GTA, reaching those living on the streets and in shelters. We have supported the Seeds of Hope Foundation, Durham Outreach Program, Durham Mental Health Services and others, and have learned so much along the way.
Each year the penny pack continues to evolve as we learn more about those most vulnerable within our community, and although initially set up to assist specifically the homeless population we are now committed to reaching all others in need of support.
This year we have learned that there are more children in need and we will respond by customizing some additional packs to assist with this age group, so that they too can feel the kindness within our community.
I am overwhelmed by the growing support with the Penny Pack, and I am so very grateful to be part of such a caring community. I want to thank you for your support with this initiative, and to let you know that your kindness will help so many along the way.
Kindness IS Power,
Mick
