Muslim Community Centre Project

The Runneymede Muslim Society (RMS) was previously known as the Islamic Welfare Association of West Surrey (IWAWS). Over the years, we have been providing the following services to Muslims and their neighbours in the vicinity of Runnymede (Surrey, East Berkshire and South Buckinghamshire):

1. Providing imams to lead the Friday and ‘Eid prayers, and to deliver thesermons. Please see our youtube channel for recorded Khutbahs. (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCS7TljG5k5keDwgtXXq5GIQ/featured).

2. Providing hot meals for iftar during Ramadan, for University students andfamilies

3. Providing speakers on Islam to schools, workplaces and university

4. Providing mosque tours for all age groups and special interest needs

5. Providing ‘Open Days’ to the general public. This is to de-mystify Islam, and to build bridges of mutual respect and understanding with the wider community

6. Participating with other groups at Inter-Faith events and helping refugees.

7. We are a founding member of the Surrey Muslim Association (SMA), an umbrella grouping of mosques and Islamic Societies in the county. Starting with about 20 students, staff and local Muslims in 1995, we have grown to 200+ attending our Jummah and Eid prayers today.

From a small prayer room next to the students’ laundry, we moved to large lecture rooms, a sports hall, dining hall and, for the last few years, to a hired Church hall for our functions. All our work is done by unpaid volunteers. We pray that Allah will accept their good deeds. Ameen.

Al-Bayan Weekend Tutorial school (ABWTS Ltd. Registered charity 1150877) is running at Strodes college (Egham) on Saturdays through hiring their venue. ABWTS was founded 28 years ago by two of our trustees where an average 120 Muslim students are taught Arabic, Quran and Islamic studies, aged 5 to 18. https://www.al-bayan.org.uk/

The International Judo and Karate Academy IJKA (Non registered Charity) was also founded 28 years ago with the school where students and parents learn martial arts together. http://www.ijka.co.uk/

What do we need?

We need your help to purchase a property in Egham, Surrey for use as a multi- purpose Community Centre/Masjid.

At present we are hiring a hall from the local Catholic Church for our five daily and Friday Jumu’ah prayers, however we need a permanent venue.

We have now identified a suitable property in a central location in Egham that is easily accessible to worshippers from 7 surrounding villages around the Runnymede area. This building will be used extensively for many kids/ladies activities regularly along with prayers , Tahfeez Al-Quran and Saturday school and will be expanded to the wider community in the future.

The cost of the property is £2m, which we are now fundraising for. We have already collected just over £460,000.
