My Dad's Cancer Treatment

Donation protected
Some of you may already know my Dad, Martin Green. A friendly, family orientated man, who spent over 30 years serving in the London Fire Brigade… Unfortunately he was diagnosed with Stage 4 Advanced Metastatic Prostate Cancer in April 2018 and has since, been battling this disease. Treatments he’s had include two lots of chemotherapy, four lots of radiotherapy, alongside three hormone therapies and two clinical trial drugs.

Until now he has undergone all kinds of treatments… yet we have now been told we have no other options and the consultant has said this is the "Last chance saloon". After an adverse reaction to the previous chemo he is now not on any treatment and is currently having to use Morphine for the pain the cancer is causing, so it is vital we take action now.

The work my Dad has done in the background for firefighters and prostate cancer across the country is unmatched… Whether it was starting petitions to raise awareness for firefighters with occupational illness to blood tests at the local rugby club (London Irish Rfc) or even going to parliament and appearing on ITV news to talk about how our heroes now need our help, this man has spent his life putting blood, sweat and tears into bettering other people’s lives.

After hours of research and determination to battle this, we have been offered a lifeline, in the form of a molecular therapy Radionuclide (Lutetium-177). This is an unlicensed therapy here in the UK, however it has had extensive testing and research put into it and in March 2022 was FDA approved. It has been shown to significantly improve prostate cancer survival rates and quality of life, as well as extend the time it takes for the disease to progress.

The catch is that it isn’t cheap and after discussing this with friends and family, I have decided to start a fundraiser to save my old man. This therapy is going to cost around £85,000 and I am going to try everything I can to give this a good fucking go. It involves scans and 6 lots of intravenous infusions, 6 weeks apart. Treatment begins on the 13th of October.

In life you cannot be afraid to ask for help, so this is what I am doing. Me and my family are surrounded by some truly amazing people and the support shown already whilst he has been suffering has been fantastic! We understand this is a lot of money we're talking about and we are not expecting to raise anywhere near that figure, however Tesco are right… Every little helps.

To raise this money, Me and my friend Max will be doing a Triathlon (Swim, Bike, Run) at the beginning of November. If all goes well, we’ve discussed getting a tattoo in honour of my Dad’s battle, followed by a skydive early next year. All proceeds are going towards this treatment and an Instagram account will be set up to follow our journey.

Donations at any time or any amount are really appreciated.
