LET'S SKATE THIS WINTER!
Chaffee County, population 18,700, is located in the mountains of Central Colorado and is home to a large group of enthusiastic hockey players and ice skaters. The skating community has been working to build a more stable and consistent ice surface rather than relying on the frozen ponds in and around Salida.
An ice rink will provide additional winter sport options for all ages and abilities, for locals and visitors. A public skating rink presents an incredible opportunity for the community to come together on the ice in a fun, safe, and healthy environment for figure skating, hockey, public skates, curling, broomball, birthday parties, date nights and more.
The Salida City Council has placed the shaded natural ice rink project into its 2020 budget but funding from the community is necessary to demonstrate support.
The ice rink project, complete with a full-sized skating surface, boards and resurfacing equipment, is estimated to cost $45,000 to construct, operate and maintain this year. Our goal through this Go Fund Me site is to raise at least $10,000 to be able to start the project as soon as possible.
Your contribution will support the physical construction of the shaded rink, purchase of promotional materials for additional fundraisers, and the initial operational needs.
This is currently a volunteer, grassroots project with huge potential for the future of this community – both for improving our recreation and economic development opportunities. The success of this project will highlight the need for a permanent, year-round arena in Chaffee County for summer and winter activities.
