We are reaching out to anyone & everyone for help. We have been EVICTED. I am 51, my husband is 56 & we have 2 kids, a 22 yr old son & a 14 yr old son. My 22 yr old & I both have a genetic disease that affects our whole body & causes chronic pain as well as issues with our hearts, eyes, muscles, joints, & all of the rest of the connective tissue throughout the whole body. Due in large part to this disease, our oldest son is 7'4" which adds it's own issues, pains & health challenges for him. I was also diagnosed with heart failure & other heart issues earlier this year & despite the five new heart medications alone that I now take, I am not doing well. I used to have a great job but I have been unable to work with these additional heart issues & as my genetic disease has progressed. My son & I are in the process of applying for permanent disability but it takes a long time. My husband is an "essential" worker. He works part time in a grocery store. He too used to have a great job but he lost it & he has been under-employed ever since. He was due to start a new, full-time, better-paying job through a special program here in Los Angeles that would have allowed us to meet our financial obligations, especially until my disability is approved, but the program was cancelled literally a week before he was to start, due to COVID.
With the help of a non-profit legal org, we tried to appeal the eviction but it was denied. The sheriff can show up at our door today & force us to leave. Not only are we not ready, we literally have nowhere to go, no one to take us in & no way to even get anywhere as we lost our car last year too (not repossessed, impounded due to a parking error & we couldn't afford to pay the impound fees before it was auctioned off). We are trying to see if our landlord will at the very least give us some additional time but we are not sure if he will even do that.
Our friends & family have helped us to survive in the past year but everyone is understandably tapped out. We have been reaching out to any & all agencies, organizations, & resources (2-1-1, etc.), for help but we have not found anywhere to go yet. We have two fur babies as well (cats - a 14 yr old & an 8 yr old) & we don't know how we are going to be able to find somewhere that will take us and them too. There are so many people in the same situation. The only option that might be available to us is a shelter but that is problematic because my son & I are extremely vulnerable to contracting COVID & since he is 7'4" even his queen-sized bed is too small for him, let alone a cot in a shelter. We are so stressed. We are just trying to have Faith...praying individually & as a family multiple times a day. We truly need more time, Financial Miracles/Blessings, & a Guardian Angel sent our way.
Someone on YouTube had suggested I start a GoFundMe campaign to try & get help for our situation when they saw a comment I had made about how a song made me feel based on these issues. I hesitated to do a campaign because I wondered if people would want to help us when they don't even know us.
We had to sit down today & tell our young teen-aged son that we have lost our place to live & that we have nowhere to go. That talk, & seeing the resulting uncertainty & fear he was trying so hard to hide behind a brave face, was THE most difficult conversation I have ever had. It is so hard to not just give up/give in myself but I cannot do that to my kids. My cardiologist had wanted to put me back in the hospital late last week for observation since my heart is not doing well but I refused so that I could spend more with my family. Since we got the news late today that our appeal was denied, I have felt like I am going to pass out, or have a heart attack, etc.
At this point we are desperate & so vulnerable & in need that we have put our pride aside & created this Campaign. Thank you for reading this. Anything is appreciated, including prayers & positive thoughts.
