WATER for Kenya

What if you start your days looking for water at the nearest river which is at 4 km from your house and what if you have four kids waiting for you to home-school, as there is no school in the community?

Four villages in Gacorone Marimanti, County of Thraraka Nithi in Kenya, welcome 400 super dynamic and strong women that take care of 132 orphans.

In this community, agriculture is the main activity, but due to the scarcity of rain and water, things are getting more and more difficult. People are forced to spend about 4 hours a day walking just to bring water from the nearest river 4 km from the villages. The river dries up twice a year and at the same time serves the flora and fauna of the region.

If enough water was available, more agricultural options could be applied and more products would be provided. Bringing water (drilling a borehole) would be a blessing for the four surrounding villages, a hope for the community and for the children.

Unfortunately the water below this ground is salty. That involves even more work to purify it. In order to cover the needs of the population, besides the borehole, 30 distribution points are required.
