Horrifically, our Guatemalan friends recently had their family torn apart. Mom was pulled out of line at asylum office and told she could self-deport or be deported with no chance to return. She took the former route and along with their four children - ages 1 year to 14 - were put on a flight to Guatemala at the end of February, leaving the dad here.

This is a family who WALKED from Guatemala to Mexico, have been in the US for years, work hard, honest, pay taxes, speak English. No criminal record. Just bought their first home last year. Living the American dream.

Now, not only are they split apart, they are encountering double expenses. They do have family in Guatemala who can help, but it's not enough.

We cannot sit idly by and let this happen - thus the GoFundMe efforts. We are hoping to raise $5000, but more than that would be amazing. We are seeding the fund with the first $500. Anything you can contribute is helpful. We know many of you feel helpless, given the cruelty and hatred so rampant today. This is a chance to be part of the solution.
