It Takes A Village

Sadly, on Sunday November 14, 2021, our sister Rachael lost her husband, Lee Makela, and our nephew, Andrew “Finn” no longer has the support of his beloved father. Lee and Rachael had an enduring love that lasted thirty-six years. Lee was the love of her life. They shared a deep love and saw each other through life’s ups-n-downs, adventures, and challenges. Lee had an amazing sense of humor, infectious smile and was always willing to work hard. He was a dedicated and fun-loving father. Lee and Finn were best buddies and had an incredibly special bond; they adored each other and genuinely understood each other.

 

It truly “takes a village” to raise a child. Now, more than ever, Rachael and Finn will need the collective support of family and friends both mentally, physically, and financially. Many of you have reached out and asked “how can I help?” Please consider writing a memory, and making a donation here to the “Finn Fund,” and/or Dana Farber Prostate Cancer Research (which is linked on Lee's obituary page.)

 

 

MEMORIES: Help Rachael to focus on, reminisce and cherish the positive memories and Finn learn more about the adventures of his father’s youth and his amazing work ethic. Share an anecdote or story about his childhood, motor-cross, skiing, snowmobiling, fishing, or boating. Do you remember the “Fire-chicken?” Did you race him down Elm Street? Speed along the shores of Ipswich or spend time with them at Little Neck? If you were a part of his “brotherhood” with the Local 275/339 Union share stories of his character, kindness, and dedication to the job. These memories will be valuable to Finn now, and later in his life.

 FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: This fund will help pay for funeral expenses for Lee and create a “Finn Fund” to provide life-long support for his “Before & After School” expenses, out-of-school activities and college tuition or technical education.
