Volunteering in Kumasi, Ghana.

My name is Maeve Casserly, I am a final-year Occupational Therapy student at Ulster University. As part of my final year placement, my four friends and I will be traveling to Ghana, Africa, to volunteer at a local school.
Occupational Therapy is a healthcare profession that supports individuals with physical, psychological, and social challenges, helping them live their lives to the fullest.
During our time in Ghana, we will be providing essential occupational therapy services to children with varying needs and abilities who otherwise don’t have access to these resources. We'll also be supplying equipment to help them with their daily activities. In addition, we will work closely with teachers, parents, and guardians to offer guidance on how to best meet the children’s needs. We will be conducting group therapy sessions aimed at developing their fine and gross motor skills, which are essential for daily participation. All of this will be facilitated through play and fun activities, which are critical for a child’s growth and development.
We will be traveling in January 2025 and staying for a month, working alongside the existing childcare programme. Our work will contribute to the long-term growth of these children, giving them opportunities to learn English and acquire valuable skills for their future.
I hope to make a difference to improving these children's lives, any donations or support would be greatly appreciated and will directly contribute to this important cause, helping us bring much-needed resources and services to these children.
Thank you so much!
