Help Sarah and her kids get back on their feet!
Hello, my name is Brittany Perkins and I am starting this campaign to gather support for Sarah Winget and her children during their time of need.
Sarah is a hard working mother of 2 and is currently pregnant with her 3rd child. She has always done whatever she’s needed to do to put her children first and provide for them. She has always made sure that they have a roof over their head, food in their bellies, and more love than they could ever need. She is everything to these boys. She is a certified Vet Technician and is passionate about working with animals. She loves music and she loves to travel and take the boys on adventures.
Recently life has thrown an insurmountable load of challenges their way. Both of Sarah’s parents are battling cancer right now. Her father’s prognosis is not good and both of them are currently undergoing chemo treatments and understandably not able to help much. We all know the saying “It takes a village”. Sarah’s parents are her only real support. Without them, she is left to deal with everything all on her own.
On top of this, Sarah’s youngest son, Blaise was recently diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. It was a very scary situation. He was taken to the hospital in DKA (Diabetic Ketoacidosis) and fell into a coma. DKA is an extremely serious complication with diabetes in which the body produces excess keytones because there is not enough insulin. The treatment for this is daily insulin injections which are extremely expensive. Blaise was in the ICU for 6 days and then ended up spending another 4 days there while they were trying to get his insulin levels under control. Sarah had no choice during this time but to miss work. She did everything she was told to do, and submitted all of her hospital paperwork to work to prove their stay. She also applied for paid leave. Not only was she denied paid leave, but she was fired from her job for missing work. This should be illegal but without funds, a lawyer, and time that she doesn’t have to fight this, it doesn’t make a difference.
Sarah is now 33 weeks pregnant with her 3rd child. For those of you who are not familiar with pregnancy, this means that even if she goes all the way up until her due date, that her baby will be here in 7 weeks no matter what. She will be a new mom again, needing time to recover from child birth and to take care of her 3 children. She will also be getting a slew of medical bills following Blaise’s hospital stay and after having the baby.
If all that isn’t enough, Sarah also has to be out of her house in 29 days! This means that the children and she will be homeless if they do not get some sort of help. She has been in contact with a social worker who has applied for Medicaid for them. However, her application is still pending which means that she has to cover the cost of Blaise’s insulin out of pocket. One month supply of his insulin without insurance is $2200.00. She has been searching for community resources to aid with housing and financial assistance and has yet to receive any help. Her situation is dire and time is of the essence. Sarah needs the support of her community now more than ever. I hope that those of us that can help in anyway can step up and be Sarah’s village. Please if you can help in anyway, I know that it would be so appreciated. Even small amounts add up quickly. Please share this page as much as possible and let’s try to help these guys ASAP!
