And we did it! Your donations supported not one but TWO well attended BIPOC workshops on March 23rd and June 16th, 2023 hosted by mayfield brooks and Andrew Suseno.
NOW we are asking for donations to keep the Brooklyn BIPOC Jam going. Your donations will go directly to these expenses:
Space Rental: $600
Teaching Artists/Guests $600
Total: $1,700. to keep the BK BIPOC Jam going for one year!
The weekly BK jam had supported this BIPOC space until early this year when the weekly jam ceased meeting. This left the monthly BIPOC Jam without support.
Hi, My name is Elise. I'm raising funds to support Contact Improvisation events with, by and for folks who identify as Black, Indigenous, People of Color.
The goal is to support the development of Contact Improvisation by supporting affinity spaces for BIPOC artists, movers, and dancers, including Queer, Trans and Non-binary BIPOC and Disabled BIPOC folks.
NYC CI communities, including the NYCWedJam and Brooklyn Jam work towards this goal by supporting affinity spaces and raising funds with hopes that BIPOC events can be free and ongoing.
Why? Despite its relatively short history and self-image, Contact Improvisation has a less-than-shiny track record with participation and inclusion beyond young, hetero, able-bodied white dancers. Let's do better.
Please consider making a donation/reparation to help us with this goal. All monies raised will go directly to Julianne Cariño to fund the facilitation of BIPOC spaces for the development of Contact Improvisation.
