Hi, my name is Sophie. I am fundraising to support the ongoing sporting and educational projects in Lusaka, Zambia. I will be volunteering for 8 weeks over June and July 2026 with the role of Netball Development Officer across different hub sites in Zambia.
I will be representing the University of Stirling and working in collaboration with Sport in Action (SIA) and the Wallace Group. Alongside students from 7 different UK universities, we aim to provide support, aid and share expertise to establish and support the sustainable development of sport.
Our mission is to help make a difference to young people in Zambia by empowering communities through the power of sport. I aim to raise funds to help contribute to the incredible work being done by SIA. Currently, approx 15% of children in Zambia do not attend school while 70% of children are facing multi-dimensional poverty. SIA aims to improve the lives of children in Zambia through sport and education.
We aim to raise £2,000 to cover expenses including: return flights to Zambia, accommodation, first aid training, safeguarding courses as well as a donation to the Fountain of Hope food bank.
To fundraise I will be taking part in the Mighty Stride Kiltwalk in April, as well as organising events with my netball club at Stirling University.
I would be so grateful for any donations no matter how big or small. Thank you for all your support! All money raised will make a huge difference in enabling us to provide support and opportunities for young people in Zambia.
