Guzman Family Emergency Fund

Thursday morning, January 13, the podiatrist came in to visit me in urgent care. My foot is broken… and needs surgery. I need to be non-weight bearing for 5-6 weeks. It happened when I was running down the stairs while attending the kids at night.

At the same time, my husband Raul was receiving his news: his visa to return to the US from Mexico was denied on the basis of him not having completed his CDC vaccination schedule, namely, the COVID vaccines. (We really didn't want him to get them, but he thought he wanted to go for it so we could finally get this 8 year immigration process behind us. It was an agonizing decision, and we hoped there might still be an out. The shots were not available with all the other ones at his medical appointment, which meant a final decision of no visa based on medical qualifications.)

It looks like there may be a way for him to return in 1 to 3 months, which is a huge relief after what our lawyer had told us.

I am a homeschooling mother of 3 small children with one on the way, due late May. Though we miss our beloved ranch and Montessori homeschool almost as much as our Papa, we are incredibly grateful for relatives in the city who are helping me take care of the kids and basic things while I can't move around efficiently.

Finances

However, we are still very much in need of help with the bills, including the new medical expenses, while Raul is unable to earn an American cost-of-living wage.

Our small emergency savings was used up quickly amid everything. Help covering our interim expenses and up-front medical costs would be a tremendous help.
I am asking for $7,000 to help us pay our bills (mortgage, food, insurance, and up front costs of medical care) for the first month while hopefully Raul can return and begin work for a first paycheck again (there is plenty of work waiting!).

This timeline and amount will be updated depending on how the actual situation plays out.

I can't say enough about how helpful Samaritan Ministries has been astounding in their support and assistance in meeting my medical needs (pregnancy and foot surgery) under the circumstances, but I am still in need of some up-front help there, partly because of the tight timing.

We are super grateful for your generosity. Please know every little bit helps, and please feel free to share with anyone you feel appropriate!

Prayers

  • That Raul will be able to return safely above all, and also quickly. (Just now, my 5 year old said, "Mommy, I hope it's only one more week till Daddy comes home!")
  • For a miraculous healing of my foot through the intercession of Blessed Franz Jägerstätter (main character in A Hidden Life - watch it if you haven't yet!), or at least for a quick recovery after surgery.
  • That our temporal needs will be met.
  • For superabundant charity as we live and share life with extended family.
  • For the health of my body and baby as I continue to progress in pregnancy, and again a quick recovery so I can be ready for a healthy home birth.
  • That I (with the help of others) can meet the emotional needs of my children during this time of upheaval.

Other needs
Someone to coordinate help with the kids, especially during and after surgery, would be helpful. We are currently staying in North Boulder.
Other kids for them to play with is always a bonus. :)
