Hello my name is Felica Reeder I need your help. My daughter will not ask for help when she needs it. My youngest grandson Wyatt ( 9 years old) has been diagnosed with a condition called Chiari. His brain has herniated into his spinal column. He will be having brain surgery in New York on July 21 with an amazing Chiari specialist, named Dr. Jeffery Greenfield. He will remove a segment of his skull, remove the back of his C1 vertebrae and open the dura ( lining of his drain) put in a patch. This is to keep his brain from continuing to compressing his spinal cord and causing all the symptoms he is experiencing. He has difficulty swallowing, daily headaches, leg pain and tingling in his hands and feet. He stays exhausted. He has been put through the wringer.

Since this journey began in February he has had multiple MRIs, a sleep study that shows he has both types of apnea ( obstructed and central where his brain tells him to stop breathing). Which led to him to have tonsil and adenoid surgery last month. He will have to return for another sleep study before his brain surgery.

All this has been very emotionally and physically draining on EVERYONE in the family. Not to mention the money that has been and will be spent on medical bills.

Unfortunately the surgeon is not in their insurance network. The cost of the surgery alone will be astronomical. The hospital they will be in has a built in medical hotel. Unfortunately the room alone will be almost $300.00 a night. Obviously not covered by insurance. Once he is released from the PICU and discharged from the hospital itself, his doctor will continue to make his rounds to the hotel room. Which is incredible. They are expected to stay in New York for at least 2 weeks, as long as there are no complications.

Any help given will be so indescribably appreciated!! ALL funds will be used for medical expenses, travel expenses, and the medical complex hotel.
