Right now, my sister, Leah, is facing one of the most frightening and uncertain moments of her life. She is 27 weeks pregnant and has been dealing with complications throughout her entire pregnancy. What has been months of worry, appointments, and careful monitoring reached a critical point yesterday, when doctors made the difficult decision to fly her 1400km away to London, Ontario, so she and her baby could receive the specialized care they need.

Because of her high risk pregnancy, my sister has been off of work since October, and every day has been focused on keeping herself and her baby safe. While stepping away from her job has been necessary, but it’s also added stress and worry on top of everything else she’s facing. The pressure of managing her health, the baby’s safety, and the financial challenges has made this time even more overwhelming.

She left home yesterday, suddenly and unexpectedly, knowing she would be apart from her 2 year old daughter, Abby, and her partner, Mike, for the first time. There’s no clear timeline for how long she will need to remain in London and every hour away is filled with worry and the desire to be back home safely with the people she loves most.

While she is in London, she will need support to cover meals, everyday expenses, and the costs for family members who wish to travel from Thunder Bay to be with her during this difficult time. Your support will allow her to focus entirely on her health and her baby without the added worry of these financial pressures.
