I am a medical practitioner (General Orthopaedics) here in North Carolina, and I'm originally from El Paso, Texas. I've gone to lots of universities there in Texas to give speeches and do lectures. A devastating flood swept through the Texas Hill Country on July 4th, leaving behind a trail of destruction and heartbreak, let us raise money so we can give to them to start a life because this has taken all from them ,this will be the least we can render to them.Communities near the Guadalupe River were particularly hard hit as the water rose rapidly, swelling over 26 feet in less than an hour, according to the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. Many families woke up to find their homes submerged and their lives forever changed.
One family in Jonestown, Texas, was alerted to the danger at 4 a.m. by a stranger shouting for them to get out of the house as their front yard became a rushing river. They attempted to escape through their backyard, but it had already become a lake. In a desperate attempt to reach safety, they were forced to enter the water. The floodwaters tragically claimed lives, including children. The loss of life at Camp Mystic, a Christian girls' camp, is particularly heartbreaking, where 27 campers and counselors died. There are also stories of immense bravery, like the dad who sacrificed his life to save his family, punching a window to let them escape, but suffering a fatal injury in the process.
The community is now working together to pick up the pieces, and relief efforts are underway. Numerous GoFundMe fundraisers have been established to support the victims, according to the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. If you wish to contribute, it's important to research the charity to avoid scams. The Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country, a legitimate 501(c)(3) charity, has created a relief fund specifically for this disaster. Donations to this fund will support non-profit organizations, first responders, and local governments involved in the recovery efforts.
