Dan Licardo served 16 years as a U.S. Navy Special Operations (SEAL) member, including combat tours to Iraq and Afghanistan. Dan suffered brain injuries resulting from a blast in Iraq that caused him to have seizures. He made his home in Flower Mound, Texas after retiring from service. However, even after he became inactive, Dan continued to serve our country by volunteering at the Adaptive Training Foundation. On September 4, 2018, a seizure caused Dan to have a terrible automobile accident that resulted in the amputation of both legs. While these injuries did not occur during his active duty, Dan is still a dedicated military member, veteran and loyal servant to this community. He was to be honored this year by Spirit of a Hero, a 501(c)3 organization dedicated to providing financial, moral, and community support to veterans of the United States armed forces. However, due to the pandemic, the annual Gala and other events were canceled.
Mike Scarlett, partner of Alair Frisco and 30-year veteran of the construction industry, has served on the board of Spirit of a Hero for more than five years and currently serves as board president. Mike is extremely passionate about supporting veterans in our area and brought Dan's story to the attention of the Alair Dallas-Fort Worth team. Alair shares Mike's passion for giving back to the communities in which we live and work, especially for those in times of need. Mike learned that Dan needed renovations to his home, particularly the bathroom and closet, to better enhance his way of life and to make getting ready each day a little easier. Mike immediately notified his partners, and the Alair team sprung into action.
As you can see in the photo for this page, the bathroom Dan and his family are currently using is much too small and not designed for wheel chair access. After several conversations with veterans who have had similar needs, the Alair team embarked on plans to renovate the Licardos' bathroom to increase its functionality. Alair DFW, along with several industry partners and vendors, has committed to donating time, labor and materials, but there will be some additional hard costs associated with the project. Our hope is that the community will assist us in completing this life-changing renovation for the Licardos. We have set a goal of $10,000 to reach the final amount we need to make this happen! Anything you can donate is appreciated, and all funds remaining after the renovation project is completed will be gifted to Licardo family.
