Ciao!

Ci vediamo presto,

Rico.

ENGLISH

Hi. I am Riccardo, But here in Uganda everyone calls me Rico.

As if by magic a few weeks ago I found myself walking the streets of the land called the pearl of Africa. But here they prefer to call it a diamond in the rough, not polished but brilliant. Where it is up to those who arrive to discover their purity.

I have found purity in the people who give life to Worth a Haven. A foundation born with the dream of Masika, a nurse who worked as a volunteer along the border of Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, also called the cursed border.
Masika during her years as a volunteer at Bwera Hospital saw more and more families losing loved ones to perpetual war, forced to seek a future away from the rubble in neighboring Uganda.
Among the refugees were also many orphaned children deprived of both parents, seeking the only way, to cross the border. It was at that point that Masika decided to take some of the children under her wing and bring them to her family's home. Unfortunately, her family's money and savings are not enough; they are insufficient to take in and care for more children.
It is at that point that Masika by looking for other resources manages to rent fields with which, with the cultivation of local produce and a few animals to raise, she achieves minimal self-sufficiency for her small community. Soon, word spreads and with the goodwill of many local people and especially some people who have come from elsewhere, from other continents, she is able to rent a house large enough to silently continue the great undertaking, that of getting more and more children away from the atrocities of war.

Masika continues to donate help, warning that it is not only her children who are expected to have the basic right to a school education. She notices, being in touch with local realities, that many families in the Kasese community are unable to pay their children's school fees. In Uganda, a public school tuition can amount to as much as 450 euros a year, which is a lot in this country.
Realizing how education is an irreplaceable human right, Masika began to devote every energy and financial aid received into building a school that could be accessible to the most fragile people and provide an excellent level of education in a safe space where every child feels comfortable and welcome.

Finally in 2022 the Preschool and Primary School Worth a Haven became a reality. It is here, The place from where I speak to you, from where I see the consistency of a wonderful project that has taken shape and substance. Here, more than 250 students enjoy the basic right of a school education. The school wants to enable its children, not only to grow in knowledge awareness but to grow free in their own expression, promoting an education that fosters creativity and enables a healthy and secure future.
At present, however, the school is faced with a situation where, in order for as many children as possible to be helped and in improving their growth path, there is a need to expand and improve the structure of the school.

Among its various ambitions, the foundation has a desire to be able to complete three new classrooms by the end of the school year, so as to ensure the older children's continued educational development without the need to move to secondary schools far from their families and with more expensive financial burdens.
In addition, so as to ensure a multipurpose education, the school has a dream to implement a space where play and multidisciplinary activities can be carried out safely. Specifically, we would like to build an outdoor recreation area with hard paving , with compressed soil along with materials readily available on site, to make an 'area the size of about 12m by 12m and a structure equipped 18 x 10 mt for various sports activities with materials not dissimilar to the other, both intended for a use of spaces more protected and safe for the health of children. Our Western schools to ensure safety and healthiness of sports environments are equipped with gymnasiums, palaces, basketball and volleyball courts , here it is a matter of limiting a space and equipping it with a budget of just under 4000 euros.

IN CASE YOU WOULD LIKE TO HAVE A LOOK TO THE BUDGETS, PLEASE DO NOT HESITATE TO CONTACT ME

Sometimes, I just like to stop in the midst of them, children who have grown up too fast but still have a craving for learning and knowledge and above all for life.

I am sure the foundation will be happy with every small, large contribution that can help change and build a secure future for these children.

I in the meantime thank you from the bottom of my heart, if only for listening!

I will see you soon,

Rico.
