Worlds Longest Coffee Morning

In September Macmillan Cancer Care will host their worlds biggest coffee morning event.  Every year since we opened the shop in 2017 we’ve had a Macmillans coffee morning inside and it’s grown over time.  So much so that last year we had to put up a gazebo outside to make room for everyone that was interested.  That’s just not going to be possible this year with only 2 in the shop at a time.

This year whenever our customers told us to “keep the change” we’ve dropped it into a collection pot on the counter for a cancer charity and we’ve filled a few.   Now more than ever cancer charities need our help and that got us to thinking about how we could try to make our coffee morning bigger than ever in the space we have.

With your help we want to hold the worlds longest coffee morning - but not the longest in time - THE LONGEST IN LENGTH!  Can we all get together and stretch from West Boldon Post Office around the Boldons, to East Boldon one way, The Colliery another and Hardie Drive and beyond?

In the last few months neighbours, neighbourhoods, villages, towns and cities round the land have pulled together.  Last year the Remembrance Poppies ran from West to East and East to West Boldon and with your amazing effort more than £1,000 was raised.  Now we want to raise even more for Macmillans with your help.

We need you to take your coffee mug, your flask and your chair outside with you to make a human coffee chain.  You might need an umbrella too.  Sit outside on the path with your neighbour or friends and let’s make this coffee morning as long as we possibly can do.  There may be some gaps and we may need you to walk with your chair to fill them but hopefully not too far a walk and not too many gaps.

So how do we do this?

Well, we’re suggesting that the money you would have spent on your coffee and cake or donated anyway you head over to our go fund me page and donate to Macmillans Worlds Longest Coffee Morning.  Let’s see if together we can help to plug some of the gap cancer charities are facing.

We’re doing this on Saturday the 26th so more of you are home to help.  If you can’t make it but still want to donate let us know where you are and we’ll put your coffee mug pin on the map and you that way you can “virtually be there” !

If you’ve already arranged a coffee morning with your family and friends stick a chair or two outside on the path and help to make the chain longer with us.  You can still host your own coffee morning while at the same time adding to the longest coffee morning too.

Let’s help a good cause, make a record at the same time and spread the word far and wide.  It only takes a handful of us to begin with - lets see how far we go...
