Spring-Ford Youth Athletic League (SFYAL) is a local, community-based baseball and softball league that has been playing in the Royersford and Spring City area since 1953. SFYAL has stayed true to its community-based roots with spring recreational leagues for all interested as part of the Babe Ruth/Cal Ripken governing body. From that group of kids, summer tournament teams are formed that play other local leagues within Babe Ruth/Cal Ripken. This year, our 10U girl's softball tournament team has had unexpected and unrivaled success, going to the championship game in every tournament they have entered. Last weekend they made it all the way to the Babe Ruth Mid Atlantic Regional Tournament championship game, beating teams from PA, DE, and NJ. Getting to the finals qualified them to play in a mere three weeks at the Babe Ruth World Series in Jensen Beach, FL. SFYAL has never had a softball team make it this far in the Babe Ruth trail tournaments.

 

While this is a great success and something that the girls and families on this team want to participate in, it comes unexpectedly. They have had no time to fundraise or plan for such a trip; qualifying for this tournament was not something they anticipated. The expected costs, including lodging, travel and food for the eight-day tournament, are at least $3,000 for one player and family member.

 

This team of girls is a true Cinderella story. 13 girls were chosen to be on this team, out of a total possible 36 girls in the entire league in this age group. The teams they compete against have triple the number of members, making their success so stunning. Making it even more impressive, only half of these girls had any tournament experience at all!

 

Please help these girls partake in the tournament they earned their way into. Too many times, finances determine who gets to play in these events. Let's help show these girls that their effort and skill determine how far they go! All donations will go towards the travel, lodging, and uniforms for the players and their families, with the total donation amount split evenly between each player's family. If, for some reason, we cannot participate in this tournament, all donations will carry over to next year's 11U SFYAL Softball team for their tournament fees.
