Hello! For the past several years, I have been working on plans for my Eagle Scout Project: to create and build a community garden that would help represent world peace and bring the thoughts of eased conflict to mind, instead of the constant strains of terror brought about by domestic terror attacks, which make no public space feel safe anymore. The goal is to build a community garden, held at Campus Hills Park in Durham, NC, and build a 3D peace sculpture for the centerpiece, with a bench and a peace pole on the opposite side, with flowers surrounding the area, and the circular area lined with bricks.
I have now received approval from the county, city, committee chair and Eagle council to proceed with this project. I am now looking for a way to fund this project and bring it to life. The funds would go to help raise money to buy all the necessary supplies (steel, bricks, gravel, wood, benches, etc.) to help construct the garden, which will benefit the community and city of Durham:
$3000 - sculpture
$500 - sand
$500 - gravel
$200 - peace pole
$800 - bench/miscellaneous
My project mentor, Joseph Lemmens, fabricated the design of the sculpture, and to be properly compensated, this is the reason for the large portion of the budget devoted to the sculpture, as it took him over 70 hours to fabricate.
If you would like to help contribute to the construction and implementation, all funds and aid are welcome! I would truly be grateful for any funds given, as this would be a dream come true if I can carry out my Eagle project.
I accept checks and cash donations as well and can be mailed to my address; please reach out to me if this is the case!
I plan to start gathering supplies as soon as possible and hopefully build the peace garden in October or November, 2019.
