Worcester Community Fridge

In recent months, community fridges have become an increasingly popular mechanism of sharing. Building a structure to increase access to fresh, healthy food requires support, love and energy—and money! We're aiming to install our first fridge in Main South by the end of October, but we need some help to cover the costs.

A community fridge (or free fridge) is a structure for mutual aid and sharing resources. They fight food insecurity and contribute to the resilience of communities. Through this project, we will work to promote equal access to healthy foods and encourage the sharing of ideas and resources throughout the Worcester community. 


This project is not to detract from the need for systemic change, but rather to emphasize the importance of love and care in community work. We are committed to practicing humanity and mutual aid. Food is a basic necessity, one that should be met enthusiastically, no questions asked.  

Worcester Free Fridge is working with various non-profits in the area to ensure that this resource incorporates community voices and needs, as well as to guarantee that it remains available to Worcester residents for years to come.

Donations made to this project will fund the cost of installing our fridge, building a weatherproof shed, implementing solar panels and purchasing necessary cleaning supplies to keep our fridge and the Main South community healthy.  Any funds raised beyond our goal will be used for providing food for our fridge and beginning to implement a new fridge elsewhere in Worcester.
