WHO ARE THE WOOLWICH SINGERS?

Woolwich Singers are a community choir whose aim is to bring music and funding to our local community in the Royal Borough of Greenwich. We are a not for profit organisation bound by a constitution and democratically run by 5 Trustees. The choir seeks to strengthen and build local community spirit and we aspire to vocal and social harmony. We are an inclusive choir who do not ask new members to audition and this enables people of all abilities to join in. Now in our 10th year, we have a membership of around 40 people which truly represents the diverse population of RBG.
We meet weekly and charge a small fee in order to pay our MD and pianist, plus other expenses such as Insurance.
Although we do perform at larger national events, our main focus is to entertain and raise funds for local events and charities which include:-
  • WSUP - a local charity which supports homeless and disadvantaged people.
  • CACT - Charlton Athletic Community Trust
  • The Maypole Project - helping children with complex medical needs
  • Our local Nepalese Community.

WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP

Since the choir started, the RBG have given us enormous support by offering us free rehearsal space at Woolwich Town Hall. This has allowed us to keep our weekly fees low and on a sliding scale which enables more people to participate.

Unforfunately, this offer has been temporarily withdrawn since the Covid outbreak as the spaces that were on offer to us are being used for Covid testing and additional office space. We have been paying for weekly rehearsal space since September and this has considerably depleted our reserves. We used to hold monthly raffles to raise extra funds to offset emergencies but we can't do this at present because of social distancing precautions.
Your donations will help us to continue rehearsing and to play in the community to raise funds for the choir until we are financially stable again and can return to the Town Hall .
