Women’s rights are human rights, and human rights are women's right! We aim to foster an Ottawa-wide community in which women - including women of colour, Indigenous women, working-class and low-income women, women of all ages, newcomer women, women with disabilities, women of diverse religious backgrounds, and LGBTQ2S+ women - can thrive and carry out their lives in the way they choose.
Background
Women’s March Ottawa held its first march in January 2017 in solidarity with the demonstrators that descended on Washington, D.C. to raise awareness of women’s rights. But we are more than a march— we’re a movement. We've got big plans to continue to strive towards gender equality in Ottawa in the coming years and support our allies and partners in the process.
Who we are
Women's March Ottawa is a locally-based non-profit organization incorporated in 2020 as part of the WMO Foundation. Based in Ottawa, our mission is to harness the power of women from diverse backgrounds and their communities to educate, advocate, and provoke transformative change. These actions begin - but don't end - with an annual march. The work that we do can be explained in a unifying framework called H.E.R.S., which spells out the women’s rights priorities of Health, Economic Security, Representation and Safety. Women’s March Ottawa is an entirely volunteer run organization made up of diverse women and gender equality advocates and activists from across the city.
