WLCA Senior Community Service Trip

The 2020 senior class of Word of Life Christian Academy will be the first class to participate in a Senior Class Community Service Trip. This is a momentous occasion for our school and for our students. They will be setting a precedence for all the following classes to come. Due to this being our inaugural trip, they want to be able to give back to another community.

For their trip, they have chosen to go to Honolulu, Hawaii.  This location was chosen due to the numerous opportunities to not only give back, but to also experience different cultures and visit historical sites important to our country. They will engage in two community service projects on this trip. The first will include their participation in removing invasive plants and repairing damaged shorelines at Paepae o He’eia, an ancient Hawaiian fishpond in He’eia, Ko’olaupoko, O’ahu. They will also be volunteering at the Honolulu Habitat for Humanity where the students will assist in building affordable housing for low-income working families. The students will be visiting Pearl Harbor for a better understanding of the importance of war memorials and the effects of war on a society. Lastly, they will be visiting Hanauma Bay to study marine ecosystems through classes and hands on snorkeling through the coral reef. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to be able to experience a different culture while giving back to others.

We are seeking sponsors for each of our students. 12 seniors attending this trip and the cost for each senior is $1496.79. This price includes roundtrip airfare, transportation, hotel, entrance to Hanauma Bay, entrance to Pearl Harbor, and a luau on their last night. Our goal is to raise $17,961.48 to cover the expenses for all.  We must be paid in full by February 1st, 2021.

In appreciation for your generous contributions, each sponsor will be featured on our class T-shirt, which will be worn as we travel and work in our varied community service settings.  We recognize that your contribution is worth far more, but we hope that you will see the tremendous value in this experience not only for our students, but for those we are helping as well. Receipts for tax purposes will be sent in the mail.
