Who we are
Our facebook page:
Little Hearts is a non-profit shelter and rehabilitation center for abandoned mentally, physically challenged children and adults. Since our humble beginnings in 1996 we have now expanded to 11 residential rehabilitation institutions located across 7 districts in Tamil Nadu, serving 600 precious lives with 100 staff members. Our main source of funding comes from kindhearted donors, and some support from the government of Tamil Nadu.
Our Vision
To shelter every abandoned physically and mentally challenged life in Tamil Nadu by empowering them to thrive to their fullest potential, and living meaningful, independent lives.
Our Mission
To serve every abandoned, physically, mentally challenged child and adult with compassion and dedication, irrespective of their caste, creed, color, and religion.
Our daily work
We identify abandoned mentally, physically challenged children and adults based on information from the public, family, police, or other sources. After completion of formalities, we shelter these precious lives in our centers, and initiate the process of rehabilitating them with the goal of empowering them to lead meaningful and independent lives. In some instances, when family members approach us to reclaim our residents, we reunite them with their loved ones.
We need your help to address TWO immediate needs:
Immediate need#1: Funds to pay staff salaries
We are struggling to meet monthly expenses, the most pressing of which is paying staff salaries every month. Because of this, staff retention is becoming a critical issue in our daily operations, since our passionate staff members provide essential care and services to our residents, day in and day out. Our inability to pay our dedicated staff on time impacts them and their families personally, as they are unable to pay rent, children’s school fees, and other family expenses.
How you can you help?
Even a small donation every month shall ensure that 1 staff member’s salary gets paid, and through your donation will ensure uninterrupted care for 6 residents.
Immediate need#2: Funds to provide lodging and vocational training for ~50 women in the Thiruvannamalai center
Our Thiruvannamalai center needs extra space for their 46 women residents (such as lodging, vocational training, and such). This extra space is mandated by the Tamil Nadu government and is essential for the institution to stay compliant with our government regulations. We started construction, but don’t have adequate funds to complete this essential construction activity. We need a total sum of Rs. 5 lakhs to complete construction and stay compliant with Tamil Nadu government regulations.
