Veronica is a devoted wife, a loving mom, and a strong friend to so many of us. Just a week ago, life for her turned upside down. She was transferred to University Hospital in Cleveland, on Tuesday and by Friday, she began her first round of chemotherapy. Veronica has been diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) — a fast-moving cancer of the blood and bone marrow that requires immediate and aggressive treatment.
Her treatment is already underway. She began with induction chemotherapy 7 straight days of chemo plus 3 days of a targeted therapy. This is designed to rapidly kill and reduce the leukemia cells. Veronica will remain in the hospital for 30 days to recover and rebuild her strength. Over the next 6 months, she will go through four cycles of chemotherapy, one each month.
The good news is that her other organs are strong and show no signs of cancer — but her immune system is extremely weak, meaning every step forward must be handled with care.
Even with health insurance, the financial strain is heavy. Donations will help cover:
Household bills while Veronica is unable to work
Medications and co-pays not fully covered by insurance
Hotel and travel costs for family staying close to her during treatment
Deep cleaning of their home before Veronica can safely return, free from germs that could compromise her weak immune system
Groceries and meals for her husband and children while they juggle hospital visits and daily life
Veronica is determined to face this fight “standing strong, unshielded, and unbroken,” or as they say in Peru "Fighting shirtless and on her feet" but she and her family cannot do it alone. Your support — whether through prayer, kind words, or a donation — will help ease the burden so they can focus fully on her healing.
Please keep Veronica and her family in your prayers, and thank you for standing beside her in this fight.
