<div>Veronica is a devoted wife, a loving mom, and a strong friend to so many of us. Just a week ago, life for her turned upside down. She was transferred to University Hospital in Cleveland, on Tuesday and by Friday, she began her first round of chemotherapy. Veronica has been diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) — a fast-moving cancer of the blood and bone marrow that requires immediate and aggressive treatment.

<div>Her treatment is already underway. She began with induction chemotherapy 7 straight days of chemo plus 3 days of a targeted therapy. This is designed to rapidly kill and reduce the leukemia cells. Veronica will remain in the hospital for 30 days to recover and rebuild her strength. Over the next 6 months, she will go through four cycles of chemotherapy, one each month.

<div>The good news is that her other organs are strong and show no signs of cancer — but her immune system is extremely weak, meaning every step forward must be handled with care.
