• What we’re facing •
As a small business serving in the age of a pandemic, it's our responsibility to take care of our amazing teams and the communities we serve. When Covid-19 arrived in the U.S and Chicago, we knew that we needed to stand up and support the fight on the frontline. Our business has always been in slingin’ slices, but as everyone holed up to protect those most vulnerable, we knew there were some tough decisions ahead. To continue being able to provide wages to the hardworking pizza fanatics that keep our stores running, we took immediate action to shift our focus to products and services that everyone needs most in this unprecedented time.
As we were making these decisions, countless healthcare professionals and essential employees across this city, country, and the world were gearing up to fight with all they have. Now we need to work together, apart, to minimize the impact on our friends, families, and neighbors.
• What we’re doing about it •
Knowing that our pizza shops had the infrastructure and ability to deliver goods and services to our communities and beyond, we began immediately offering larger-format Take ‘N Bake family meals and Build-Your-Own Pizza Kits. A portion of the sales from these menu items goes directly to feeding frontline workers when they need it most. We have already been able to provide meals to dozens of essential workers.
Our founder, Dimitri Syrkin-Nikolau, realized quickly that our stone pizza ovens, coupled with our experience in working in high volume production, gave us the unique opportunity to produce much needed PPE. Specifically, our large ovens are perfect for forming acrylic face shields. So we put our team to work assembling them!
• Who’s helping us •
Our staff is taking every precaution to continue working their butts off to make all of this possible.
Now more than ever it’s our duty to support local business. We paired up with our friends at Half Acre Beer to make a one-of-a-kind pizza kit and offer beer for delivery. We’ll continue collaborating with our friends and neighbors to encourage activities to keep us all sane while we practice social distancing and send pizza-fuel to the front line.
To make it possible for us to produce face shields, our friends at Avenue Metal made a custom mold that allows us to shape the heated and malleable acrylic into the correct shape. We then attach a riveted velcro strap and pad to complete the shield.
• How you can help •
If it is possible for you to donate, and you have the means to take action, we hope you will contribute. No amount is too small.
100% of donations (minus the 2.9% and $0.30 per donation transaction fee) will go directly to either providing meals to essential workers or sending face shields to institutions and individuals most in need.
