Winter Helping Hands Drive - 3rd Annual

FAMILY SUPPORT DRIVE for Bellingham Public Schools students and their families

Your help is needed. This time of year can be extra challenging for some of our families in the Bellingham Public School District. Many students and their loved ones are facing extreme financial hardship.

If you are able, will you make a contribution to support their basic needs?

100% of these funds are dedicated to assist families with: personal care items (laundry detergent, toilet paper, diapers, etc), clothing, household items, health care, transportation, and other unmet, vital needs.

Families access this support through the Bellingham Public Schools' Family Resource Center. FRC staff work with all our district's schools and directly serve families and individual students in need. (See below some of the ways these funds have been put to use.)

Thank you for supporting our community's children and their families!

If you prefer to submit your tax-deductible donation by check, please send to: FFRC, P.O. Box 24, Bellingham, WA 98227-0024.

With Gratitude,

Some of the ways these funds have supported families through the FRC:
  • A father who lived with his family in a motel found a job on the fishing docks but needed boots and a bib. We were able to purchase those items. Dad is doing well now at his job, and they're transitioning into housing.
  • A mom of two children ages 8 and 19 lives with arthritis. She cannot drive anymore and wanted her son to learn but could not afford driving lessons. Funds from the Friends of the FRC provided driving lessons, and he is now not only helping his mom but also making sure that his sister can get to school and other activities.
  • An elementary student had to wait to be fitted for orthotics. In the interim, the doctor recommended insoles that required supportive quality shoes. With our assistance, mom was able to buy her son a good pair to help his gait.
  • During recent years, we have provided hundreds of beds, often with new sheets and a blanket. Often new families come into our district with only the clothes on their back. Other families sleep doubled up, with students on couches or in beds that basically are falling apart. We all know how important a good night's sleep is. Without it we can't expect our students to be successful.
