Mid-August we received a call from my 19 year old cousin, Brooke, who lived in Arizona. She called to tell me she was pregnant and asked if we would adopt her baby.
Ryan and I talked it over and thought it was the right thing to do. She knew she was too young and mentally not ready to care for a baby.
Brooke moved to Ohio in September where we set her up with an OBGYN and mental health professionals.
Brooke was adopted out of the system by my aunt when she was 4 years old, along with her three younger siblings. She absolutely does NOT want her baby to go into the system like she did.
We really want to help her by adopting her baby boy, Owen James, so she can still keep him in her life as apposed to him being taken by CPS. She was already told in Arizona that if she couldn’t find someone to adopt him, Childrens Protective Services would have to take him due to her many mental health diagnoses.
Ryan and I had NO idea that it would cost so much to do a private adoption, even though we are family.
We have to pay for two separate attorneys, a home study, filing fees, court costs, birth assessment, and post placement. The cost for all of these required expenses totals over $10,000. When we found this out from our attorney we were devastated. We want to help her but we don’t have the financial ability to cover these costs.
We are asking for help from our friends and family, and anyone else who is able. We are exploring every avenue to try to make this happen for her. Any donation you could give, even the smallest amount, would be extremely appreciated and so helpful towards bringing sweet Baby Owen home! ❤️
