Wingfoil Upwind Challenge

Tax deductible
Please support me in efforts to raise money to benefit Cure Alzheimer's Fund (Alzheimer's Disease Research Foundation). Any amount of donation will help make an impact. Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me (honoring my father Charlie, who passed away from the disease in 2018). And THANK YOU to all who have supported me in past fundraisers.

This summer/Fall, I'll take on an endurance challenge to wingfoil (a new wind sport that combines windsurfing/kitesurfing/hydrofoiling) along a route/tour of the Sakonnet River in Rhode Island (see projected path above ; and a recent attempt that ended in a "one-way" trip, after the wind died). Here is a link to show you the sport (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mItrhczxdFI and recent article: https://www.ft.com/content/87e259cc-36b0-4583-b3b4-dfea0883eb41?fbclid=IwAR3aqxUWAbvsCrWuInCUF_iD2rGR6CnThRuyAGr8MprsIcGR-NDdt_UoxAk), and see photos below of my seaworthy vessel. Some compare it to riding a unicycle atop a bucking bronco :) I'll be channeling my "inner salmon" to travel upwind over 7 miles (as the crow flies; it's likely 20-30 miles with zig-zagging) of liquid terrain against a Southwest wind, navigating currents, waves, tides and other variables. I've practiced recently crossing the "broads" of Lake Winnipesaukee, and going upwind from Bristol Harbor in Rhode Island to the far Southern edge of Prudence Island...My goal is to travel from Fogland Beach to Sakonnet Point, a liminal zone where river meets ocean, and then downwind back to the starting point. I hope to inspire others with this adventure, representing a metaphor for life - taking on stretch goals, venturing beyond the comfort zone, into the unknown...the outbound encounters...the return, renewed...The upwind journey will be much longer and more arduous (probably 3 hours or so), and then will be aided by waves and wind heading up-river/down-wind...I'll report back to all supporters with photos (maybe video!) and updates as to when I'll attempt this challenge (it may be post-attempt because of weather uncertainties).
