Legislation is needed to stop the Home Office from treating the Windrush Generation and their descendants as foreigners when they have lived in the UK most of their lives. Their statuses were removed by operation of law. Parliament must restore their citizenship and pay reparation for that wrong.
Windrush Defenders Legal, and Preston Windrush Generations and Descendants, sister organisations who campaign for the rights of the Windrush generation, are raising funds urgently to support a Judicial Review of the Home Secretary’s refusal to support legislation to restore their citizenship, and to pay reparation.
The wrong done to the Windrush Generation by changes to the law still continues to have a grave impact. Many people are living in limbo, awaiting the restoration of their citizenship and compensation for the wrongs done to them, including:
- lost employment
- being put in detention or deported
- being refused re-entry to the UK
- being denied access to the NHS.
Justice delayed is justice denied. Serious harm was inflicted on people who are British and continues to be inflicted. The law must be changed. Help us in our fight to right this wrong.
