Hi Everyone,
It’s a little last minute but I’m raising money for a community project that I volunteer with that urgently needs funds to continue. You can read more in a BBC article from yesterday.
THE CHALLENGE - I will try to cycle the length of Wales from Bristol to Bangor - 3 days, 3 ‘mountain’ ranges and over 350km carrying all my food and shelter. I’m no Bradley Wiggins, almost certainly underprepared, a tad nervous, but think it’s just about do-able. Here’s hoping these tail winds of Hurricane Ernesto are following me.
THE PROJECT - For the last couple of years I’ve volunteered at my local city farms “supper club’ in south Bristol. The project began in late 2022 in response to the cost of living crisis to offer families a warm, friendly space, a healthy cooked meal, and some social time. It quickly evolved into a highlight of everyone’s week - volunteers and families alike - with kids learning crafts, dance routines, feeding the animals and more. It’s still running but there is only enough funds for 10 more weeks so will end just as the colder, darker winter months arrive when it is of most value.
I can say with my hand on my heart that it’s a project where relatively little money brings about many benefits and joy. My personal hope is that we can keep it going at least through the winter, expand the numbers of families visiting and even organise occasional trips to the seaside or similar during the holidays - “supper at sea” or the like.
I appreciate finances are at capacity for many - but if you feel able, any contribution is appreciated and feel free to pass on to anyone else. All being well I will arrive in Bangor on Sunday night; tired, fetid, chuft, and perhaps with a few quid to pass on.
Many thanks in advance : )
