On 30th November I will be running the 26.2 miles down the Thames from Windsor Castle to Richmond Canoe Club, where I've been a member since moving to London almost 20 years ago.
Being able to get out on the river and get involved in sport has given me so much over those years, but I'd never have done so had it not been for the couple of 1970s fibreglass kayaks that were given to me on loan as a teenager growing up in Anglesey, N Wales that first gave me the confidence to mess around on the water.
Those boats were donated by a couple of family friends who were founding members of the Bull Bay Rowing club, whose boathouse was sadly recently put up for sale by the landowners.
I know personally what a difference sport can make to a community, and the local community there have a great plan to bring the boathouse back into use for a range of different users, provided funds can be found to pay for the purchase and restoration of the building.
So not only will any donations help to motivate me to keep going through the pain barrier that normally sets in after around 20 miles of running, but it will make a huge difference to a local group whose leisure facilities are under threat.
