My name is Glen Hughes, and through personal experience, I’ve seen just how difficult it can be for families with autistic children to find safe, suitable outdoor spaces.

Too many of the places we take for granted simply aren’t designed with neurodiverse children in mind. They can be overwhelming, unpredictable, and, for many families, inaccessible. This often leads to isolation, with limited opportunities for children to play freely or for families to feel part of their community.

That’s why I started Williams Den.

This project is about creating a calm, inclusive outdoor space where autistic children can explore, feel safe, and be themselves. A place built around their needs — with natural play, quiet areas, and space to regulate and relax.

This is something I care deeply about. It’s not just about building a space — it’s about creating belonging, improving wellbeing, and giving families somewhere they feel understood and supported.

With initial funding, we’ve already cleared and prepared the land, which has been a huge step forward. Now we’re ready to start building.

The funding we’re raising will go towards:

• Safe fencing and secure boundaries

• Sensory-friendly and natural play features

• Quiet spaces for calm and regulation

• Landscaping to make the area accessible and welcoming

Every contribution will help turn Williams Den into a lasting, meaningful resource — a place where children can thrive and families feel less alone.
