Hi, my name is William Martell and I am a Life Scout with Troop 515, Howell.  I am working towards obtaining the rank of Eagle Scout.  All Eagle Scout Candidates are required to complete a service project that benefits the community.  I chose Ramtown Elementary School as the benefactor for my project.  The project that I will be completing will be constructing 3 large raised vegetable garden beds with an irrigation system.   School gardens are an effective way to promote lifelong healthy eating habits and connect students to the outside world.  They provide opportunities for hands-on learning, inquiry, experimentation and observation as well as motivates students to eat and love fruits and vegetables.  Vegetables from the gardens can be used in school or provided to the local food bank.   Below is an example of what each of the raised gardening beds will look like.   My goal is to construct at least 3 of these beds in the center courtyard of the school.  I had hoped to raise money through other means, and had plans for hosting a spaghetti dinner and holding a car wash, but with the uncertainty of the COVID-19 quarantine and gatherings, we thought it would be best to try to raise the money here.  My hope is that I will be able to raise the money needed for the project by the end of July so that we can have the construction completed before school opens in September.  Thank you so much for your help and support in my journey to Eagle.  Scouting has given me so many skills and life lessons and I would not be who I am today without it.  Thank you.
