My Story:
For the last two years, every time I’ve taken my dog out for a walk, I’ve picked up litter along the way.
I didn’t start this for attention or recognition — I did it because I was fed up with rubbish everywhere and didn’t want my dog stepping on broken glass.
At first, it was just a single bin bag.
Then it became multiple bags.
Eventually, I needed a trolley just to keep up.
And something unexpected happened.
People in my neighbourhood started noticing.
A kind older lady stopped me one day and gave me some spare change because she appreciated what I was doing.
Someone I’d never spoken to in all the years I’ve lived here sent me a card to say thank you — that the work mattered and hadn’t gone unnoticed.
But here’s the hard truth.
No matter how often I go out, I’m constantly cleaning the same areas again and again. The rubbish keeps coming back faster than one person on foot can manage.
So now I’m at a crossroads.
I can:
Give up and let the rubbish take over
or
Do this bigger than I ever have before
And I’m not the giving-up type.
Why I’m Asking for Help
To make a real, lasting impact, I need to shift from small, repeated cleanups to large-scale cleanups done quickly — clearing problem areas properly so they stay cleaner for longer.
To do that, I need:
- A used van to move large amounts of rubbish
- Cleanup tools and equipment
- Funds to keep the vehicle running
- Recycling centre disposal charges
- A camera to document the work
- Any additional costs that arise to facilitate Cleanup Quest
The sole purpose of Cleanup Quest is simple:
Make public spaces cleaner, safer, and better for everyone.
