WILDFIRE RECOVERY - SW HWY 115 FIRE PROT. DISTRICT

Donation protected
Our Southwestern Hwy 115 Fire Department did an exceptional job under extreme conditions fighting the Wild Horse Fire South of Colorado Springs along Highway 115 (October 11-15,  680 acres)!

Sadly,  the Wild Horse fire was costly to our very small Fire Department. The fire destroyed about $15,000 of our firefighting equipment essentials including some personal protective equipment, fire hoses, and possibly one of our firefighting water pumps on one of our Type 6 brush trucks. Additionally, it damaged both the ABS brake system and the transmission on our Fire Chief’s 2004 Chevy Suburban. In order for our Fire Department to be “Fire Ready” it is imperative the destroyed equipment be repaired or replaced as soon as possible.  The cost of this fire will put a tremendous strain on our already tight yearly budget. Due to the large geographical area of our fire district and having only about 630 households in the district, our annual budget is quite small.  Every year we fundraise to cover any extra costs needed to keep our fire department well equipped and to cover any special needs that arise that are not included in the normal budget.  The devastation and costs this year exceed our local fundraising capabilities!

For this critical fundraiser,  donated funds [$15,000] will :
     1. Replace required personal protective equipment (PPE) for two firefighters whose PPE was destroyed.
     2.  Replace 1,000 feet of firehose the wildfire destroyed.
     3.  Replace/repair the damaged water pump on the Type 6 brush truck.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
     4.  Replace the damaged 2004  Suburban (235,000+miles) for the Fire Chief      [$45,000].

Funds are needed right away as the current deadly fire season in Colorado is not over, and the prolonged drought is exacerbating fire dangers - our firefighters (mostly volunteers) must be ready at all times to protect our district. Our small district would be extremely grateful  for whatever you can donate during these trying times (COVID-19 is hurting so many people already).  It means the world to us who live in the Highway 115 fire district corridor to have friends and concerned citizens all over the United States support our emergency needs. Please donate generously today!

{We are happy to report NO lives lost, NO firefighter injuries, and NO structures were lost. The SW HWY 115 FPD’s quick response and ability to coordinate with many local Fire agencies, including our neighbor Ft. Carson firefighters, for a strong initial fire attack and strategic fire management were truly remarkable. }
